JOB DESCRIPTION
- Acting as the primary point of contact for employee concerns, grievances, and disputes, mediating conflicts and offering resolutions to ensure a harmonious work environment in the mining sector.
- Conducting thorough investigations into employee complaints or issues of misconduct and providing advice to facilitate the resolution of matters raised, documenting findings and recommending actions to resolve issues.
- Ensuring that all employee relations activities comply with labour laws, as well as mining-specific regulations.
- Providing advice on employee relations matters to employee and line management.
- Collaborating with union representatives, participating in collective bargaining processes, ensuring fair labour practices, and maintaining strong working relationships with union bodies.
- Implementing programs and initiatives to improve employee morale, engagement, and retention, including conducting surveys, facilitating feedback sessions, and providing ongoing support to staff in high-risk, physically demanding environments.
- Providing guidance and support in training managers and supervisors on effective employee relations practices, conflict resolution, and enhancing communication across the workforce.
- Compiling reports on industrial relations developments within the company and proactively advising management on trends that may be detrimental to stakeholders
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
- Degree in Human Resources Management or equivalent
- Must have a minimum of 10 years’ human resource experience with solid labour relations experience
- Experience in working in a unionised environment
- Experience in leading salary negotiations.
- Knowledge of Botswana labour laws e.g Employment Act, Trades Disputes Act etc
- Certification in labour laws will be an added advantage
- Negotiation skills: ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts in a fair and equitable manner
- Conflict resolution: ability to address conflicts effectively
- A valid class B driver’s license and good driving record are a must for all positions.
